Redress Raleigh

Redress Raleigh is a local organization devoted to fostering eco-friendly design in the Triangle area. They also have a wider mission of fostering small business and economic development in North Carolina. Pretty great. I’ll be selling my work at their first market event October 16th, and I’d love to see you there!

I’m so very, very excited to announce that I am teaching a sewing class at Epona & Oak this month. Space is limited so get on over to the shop and sign up!

The Simple Straight Skirt Workshop:

Every girl needs one, learn how to make your own! We’ll cover basic sewing skills, understanding your pattern, how to check for fit, layout and cutting, and construction. You’ll learn how to install an invisible zipper, put on a waistband and basic serging. I will provide interfacing and bring my serger for us to share.

Three sessions to complete the workshop:

Wednesday October 12th,  7:15-9:15

Wednesday October 19th, 7:15-9:15

& Wednesday October 26th, 7:15-9:15

Epona & Oak

329 Blake St
Raleigh, NC 27601
(919) 828-7500

Supplies list:

  • New Look # 6843 in your size. To determine your size, take your measurements and refer to the chart on the back of the pattern. Remember that the sizing is not the same as the sizes we are used to buying in stores, so go by the measurement chart and not just the size number.
  • Fabric required for size desired. If you are choosing a fabric that you will launder in the washing machine, prewash. (Refer to chart on the back of the pattern. We will also do a fitting during class and adjust sizing as needed. If you are between sizes, buy enough fabric for larger size). Allow extra fabric for matching plaids or stripes. Suggested fabrics are cottons, linens, wool & wool blends. Woven fabrics only; no knits please.
  • Thread in color to match or contrast
  • 7” invisible zipper to match
  • One 1/2” button
  • Scissors for fabric
  • Straight pins
  • Seam ripper
  • Your sewing machine

Interfacing will be provided.

Online (make sure to give yourself enough time to order swatches. Fabrics can vary in quality a great deal so I do not recommend ordering fabric online without getting a swatch first, to see what the hand feel and drape are.):

I have a terrible addiction to earrings, but unfortunately I also often lose them. So lately I’ve been trolling etsy for a new pair. So many lovely things…sigh:

‘shrooms part two

I just couldn’t resist doing one more post about the daily mushroom haul in our backyard. As far as I can tell from a few minutes research on the internet, we have several varies of Amanita, at least one Russulalaes, and two Boletales (the two velvety red and yellow mushrooms in photos 1 & 2 and the dark brown monster in photo 3).
